What is insulation plaster, and does it suit Oman?
Insulation plaster is a plaster layer that also insulates. In a hot climate like Oman it is one way to keep heat out of the walls. This guide explains what it is and what to ask before you choose it.
What it is
Ordinary plaster levels and covers a wall. Insulation plaster does this too, but it is made with lightweight mineral aggregates, so the plaster layer itself slows heat travelling through the wall. Thermolock, which we distribute and apply in Oman, is one example. According to the manufacturer it is a cement-based composite with perlite, pumice and vermiculite.
Why it matters in Oman
Most of the cooling load in a villa comes through the roof and the sun-facing walls. Insulating the wall surface reduces how much heat reaches the rooms, which is why owners ask about it when air-conditioning bills are high. How much you save depends on the building, the wall type and the thickness applied, so we do not promise a fixed figure.
How it is applied
The manufacturer states that it is mixed with water and applied by trowel or spray machine directly on suitable substrates such as brick, aerated concrete and block, then finished. The typical thickness depends on the climate and the target performance. A site visit is needed to confirm the surface and the thickness.
Other things it can do

Questions to ask before you choose
Ask which layers are included, what thickness is proposed and why, which test documents exist, who applies it, and what warranty is given. A good supplier answers these in writing.

Common questions
Is insulation plaster the same as paint?
No. It is the plaster layer, applied directly on the wall, and it can carry its own textured finish. It is not a paint.

Can it be applied on an existing villa?
